Relax and Adapt to the Dark · 20 min
Sink into your zero-gravity recliner with a cold drink and a pair of astronomy binoculars as the desert sky fades from twilight to true dark. The brightest stars and planets are already coming out.

Follow a high-powered green laser across tonight's constellations, planets, and the Milky Way itself. You'll hear the ancient myths behind them and learn to navigate the night sky.

Hi, I'm Eric. I wanted to be an astronaut when I was a kid. I never made it to space, but I found the next best thing out here in Big Bend, where the sky is dark enough to feel like you're standing in space.
It started with me taking pictures of the Milky Way. I bought a small telescope, then a bigger one, then a bigger one still. Somewhere in there it stopped being a hobby and became this. Whether you're a lifelong space nerd or just after a beautiful night under the stars, I can't wait to show you the universe from this place.
A Sanctuary Under the Stars
Starlingua Ranch sits on 60 private acres located off of Terlingua Ranch Road. The Corazones Peaks frame the southern sky while the Milky Way stretches overhead. Once you arrive, it's absolute silence, no light pollution, no crowds, and one of the darkest skies in North America.
Drive to the Dark
I have had guests tell me “I can see more stars out here than last night at my Airbnb near the Ghost Town”. Out here it is about as dark as it can get. Well worth the drive. Less than 30 minutes from the Terlingua Ghost Town. The last ¼ mile is a well-kept dirt road any vehicle can handle.
Head north on the TX-118 and watch the lights of Study Butte and the Airbnbs fall away behind you. The glow on the horizon fades, then it's gone, and you cross into true Bortle 1 sky, the darkest rating there is. Out here the Milky Way is bright enough to cast a shadow.

Yes we and in fact all of our tours are private. You will have the night to yourselves. You can bring any age children, and I customize the night for your family.

About 2½ hours. Tours begin around 30 minutes after sunset, so the exact start time shifts through the year. You'll see the exact time for your date on the booking calendar and in your confirmation.

Dress in layers, desert nights cool down fast, even in summer. Wear closed-toe shoes and a jacket, and that's really it. We provide everything else, including zero-gravity recliners, blankets, and red-light headlamps.

Can I bring alcohol?
Absolutely, feel free to BYOB. We provide sparkling water, but we're not licensed to serve alcohol, so bring whatever you'd like. There's a small cooler with ice here, so just bring your drinks, no need to pack your own cooler. A bottle of wine and a zero-gravity recliner is hard to beat.

Absolutely. Most guests have never looked through a telescope before, that's exactly who this is for. No experience needed. We guide you through everything, from finding constellations to using the telescope yourself.

Yes, kids are awesome! We recommend ages 6 and up for the best experience. Younger kids sometimes have a hard time with the late start and looking through the telescope. And since we're out in open desert full of sharp, pointy things, we ask that kids stay close by.

We love animals, but we have to say no on this one. In the dark, leashes wrap around tripod legs and the telescopes tip over easily, and there's a lot of expensive, delicate gear around. Service animals are always welcome.

The full 2½-hour tour: a laser-guided constellation tour, telescope viewing, and an astro-portrait of you all under the stars. Zero-gravity recliners, blankets, sparkling water, and red-light headlamps are all provided.

No Stars, No Pay. If the night can't go on because of weather or viewing conditions, you get a 100% refund, or we can try to reschedule you for the following night. I keep a close eye on the forecast and will stay in touch by message if conditions look like they're changing.

Your ticket is fully refundable up to 72 hours before it starts. Inside 72 hours I offer a 50% refund, since it's usually too late to fill the spot. Regardless I have 100% bad weather full refund policy.
